Last updated 6 October 2026. This covers the Floss Lock app and this website.
The short version. You don’t make an account. Your flossing stays on your phone. The camera check never records. We can’t see which apps you lock or how you use them. If you join a family board, it keeps a nickname and whether you flossed each night. We don’t sell anything about you, and there are no ads.
On your phone only
These never leave your iPhone:
- Your flossing record: nights flossed and skipped, your streak, Pearls, Toothy’s closet, your goal and your next checkup date.
- Kids you floss with: their nicknames and nights, if you add them.
- The camera check: it runs on your phone, only looks for flossing motion while you floss, and is never recorded, saved or uploaded.
- Your locked apps: Floss Lock uses Apple’s Screen Time tools. Apple gives the app sealed tokens, not app names, so not even the app knows which apps you picked. Nothing about your screen time is collected.
Deleting the app deletes all of this.
If you join a family board
The family board lives on our server so everyone in the family can see it. For each person it keeps:
- a nickname and a colour,
- whether they flossed or skipped each night, and their streak,
- whether their lock is on and what time it starts,
- their time zone and when their phone last checked in,
- cheers and nudges sent that night,
- a push address so we can deliver nudges and a parent’s nightly summary.
It never holds emails, real names, logins, which apps you lock, screen time, camera images or location. Each phone keeps its own secret key; the server stores only a scrambled form of it. Kids a parent ticks off on their own phone never reach the server. A parent can remove anyone from the board; to delete a whole family’s data, email us.
Notifications and updates
Reminders are scheduled on your phone. Nudges and a parent’s nightly summary are sent through Expo’s push service and Apple’s push service, which see the push address and the message. The app checks Expo’s update service for small fixes, which sees your app version and phone type like any web request.
Buying Plus
Purchases go through Apple. We never see your card or Apple ID. Apple tells the app whether you have Plus. If we add a service to manage subscriptions, it will be listed here before it is used.
Analytics and crash reports
None today. If we add them, they will be listed here first, with what they collect, and they won’t include anything from the camera or your locked apps.
The website and waitlist
When you join the waitlist we keep your email address, whether you picked iPhone or Android, the date, and, if you came through a tagged link (for example from one of our videos or a dental office), that link’s tag. We use it to tell you when Floss Lock is ready and may invite you to try it early. Every email has a way to unsubscribe.
This site has no ads, tracking pixels, analytics or cookies. Its fonts load from Google Fonts, which sees your browser’s IP address when it sends them. The site and the family board run on Cloudflare.
Children
Children under 13 don’t use their own Floss Lock account or join the family board on their own phone. A parent can add a child’s nickname on the parent’s phone, where it stays.
What we never do
- Sell or rent your information, or share it with advertisers.
- Show ads.
- Record or upload the camera.
Your choices
Delete the app to remove everything on your phone. To leave the waitlist, or to have family board data deleted, email hello@flosslock.com and we’ll do it within 30 days. If this policy changes in a way that matters, we’ll update the date above and say so in the app.
